Housekeeping:
I will always treat your time and attention with respect.
I DO use AI tools to generate images, correct grammar, check for errors, and so on.
I DO NOT have AI write my posts. The thoughts and opinions are all mine (or gleefully stolen liberated from someone with a clearer understanding of the world).
I publish weekly at 5 PM Central every Monday. I may add extra posts from time to time.
Bio:
If you’ve read this far, you might want to know who I am and why my opinions might matter to you. Fair enough…
I’m a boomer. Born in 1952 and raised in Wichita Kansas in a lower-class family with two sisters. My neighborhood had lots of kids, open spaces, and unsupervised play (something I wish was more common for today’s kids). Martial arts, hunting, motocross racing, and gymnastics were my hobbies. I was one of the few kids who truly enjoyed school. It was usually easy for me, and I liked learning anything new. That’s still true today.
I worked at various odd jobs from the time I was 12 until I left home to join the Marine Corps after a year of college. I started martial arts at 12 and retired from active practice and teaching at age 72 because I got old enough to know better and no longer dumb enough to keep trying.
In the Marine Corps, I got intensive training in electronics technology, made it to the rank of Sergeant in 3 years, scored expert on the rifle range, and never had a shot fired at me because I ended up being stationed in Okinawa. Vietnam was winding down when I went in, and Saigon fell just before I left. Pure luck plays a big part in every life. I’m one of the luckiest people around.
As a civilian, I had no idea what my “career” should be, so I tried a LOT of different jobs. I was an avionics technician, construction laborer, lineman, railroad equipment installer, and phone technician. Each job told me more about myself and I naturally migrated away from the things I didn’t like, toward things I did.
Becoming a technical manager, call center manager, and finally, a telecommunications project manager. I truly found my niche and I spent the last 30 years of my career honing my skills in project and people management.
Side hustles, as an energy auditor and eBook publisher, gave me the skills of a small business owner. Project Management of major projects for Fortune 50 companies on five continents required a very broad perspective and deep understanding of the complex ways people interact.
Since retiring, I’ve published my first book, “A Concise Guide to Better Decisions”, worked with the Decision Education Foundation and continue to learn and grow with my wife of 37 years, Donna. She’s my best friend and editor. Her eye for detail and commitment to clarity makes each of my posts better.
