Seinfeld did a special when he turned 65…
It hit home.
Saying things like “I don’t have a bucket list.”, “No, I don’t want to train for a marathon”, “Why would I want to learn hot yoga?” “Not climbing any mountains, no skydiving either.”
“No, I’ve improved myself enough thank you!” - Jerry Seinfeld
I don’t have a bucket list, because I honestly feel that I’m doing more interesting things with my life than skydiving, learning a foreign language, traveling, visiting another sandy beach, climbing a mountain, sailing, or learning hot yoga. Nothing against any of those things but they aren’t my life’s ambition.
I just want to be a good person, help where I can, and leave things better than I found them.
So, I’ve set out to create a sort of Reverse Bucket List and start getting rid of things that are holding me back. Get rid of the hurtful and bad first.
Kick It List
Drinking too many calories (mostly sugar)Too much crap that I don’t need. Get rid of everything in storage. When something comes in, something goes out.Smoking. What exactly was the upside??? I never found one.Not moving enough every day (Still a work in progress)
Wasting effort on things I can’t control (I’m better at this but it’s still a problem.)
Not getting enough sleep.Making snap judgments about important things. (Figuring out what’s important needs to be a part of this.)
Snacking too much.
Anxiety and anger, getting better but this is a long-term project.
Beating myself up over anything and everything.Reactive habits that put me in a bad frame of mind to deal with challenges.
Before you try to tune up the engine, get rid of the dead weight. I’m going to do that with my own operating rules. The Kick It List is a part of my OS.
